Digitalisation for Smart Monitoring, Assessment, Readiness and Technology – Realizzazione di un hub digitale SRI per Regione Lombardia
The D-SMART project was created to establish a digital hub in the Lombardy Region dedicated to the Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI), responding to the European EPBD IV directive for the decarbonization of the building stock. The goal is to guide the transformation of buildings into intelligent and dynamic entities.
Through the use of automatic and intelligent controls in buildings and integration with BIM and BMS systems, the project develops innovative methodological tools and a regional database to measure and classify the smart readiness of public and private buildings.
The results will converge into a Digital One-Stop-Shop, an access point that will allow stakeholders to benefit from advanced services for energy efficiency, anticipating the European regulatory obligations scheduled for 2027.
The new Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) imposes a rapid evolution of the construction sector towards sustainability and digitalization, making the adoption of common metrics like the Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) urgent. The D-SMART project responds to this strategic challenge by bridging the current gap in Italy and equipping Lombardy with the necessary tools to assess building intelligence, improve living comfort, and optimize consumption, transforming real estate assets into connected and efficient ones.
Key impacts and expected results:
- Activation of a Digital One-Stop-Shop for centralized access to data and services.
- Creation of a database with SRI benchmarks based on over 350 SRI assessments.
- Advanced integration between SRI indicators, Building Management Systems (BMS), and BIM models.
- Analysis of the increase in market value of properties thanks to the certification of their “intelligence”.
- Definition of guidelines to support policy makers in the regulatory adoption of the SRI.
R2M Solution plays a central and strategic role within the D-SMART consortium:
- Project Coordinator: Overall, administrative, and technical management of the partnership.
- Conducting SRI assessments and managing the database with results and strategic information.
- One-Stop-Shop Development: Realization of the digital platform for access to SRI services.
- 3D Visualization: Development of immersive models to visualize SRI results within navigable virtual environments.
- Certification Integration: Definition of methodologies to correlate SRI with sustainability protocols such as LEED, WELL, and BREEAM.
- European and National Bridge: Connecting local activities with the initiatives and working groups of the European Commission and at the national level regarding SRI.
