FEDECOM
FEDErated -system of systems- approach for flexible and interoperable energy COMmunities
FEDECOM develops a federated system of systems enabling energy communities to integrate forecasting, optimisation, local trading, and cross-community interoperability. Deployed across three pilots in Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, and Netherlands, it runs 48 months under Horizon Europe funding.
The platform aligns communities with digitalisation, sector coupling, data governance, and fair participation through interoperable analytics and blockchain marketplaces.
It addresses technical, economic, social, and regulatory challenges to reduce costs, boost flexibility, and create replicable models.
FEDECOM’s modular digital platform connects buildings, EVs, storage, heat, and hydrogen assets across communities for data collection, forecasting, optimisation, and secure energy/flexibility trading via blockchain marketplace with automated matching and settlement.
Key impacts:
- Increases local renewable use and energy autonomy.
- Reduces grid imports, peaks, and operational costs.
- Enables sector coupling across electricity, heat, mobility, hydrogen.
- Demonstrates cross-community interoperability and replication potential.
- R2M France leads dissemination, communication, exploitation, business model development, and market analysis
- R2M Spain supports project management and contributes to technical development
